Is There Any Possibility 2009 Can Be a Good Year?
January 3rd, 2009OK, break out the tennis shoes, the new workout gear and all the diet books. I was in Barnes & Noble today and as I walked in, front & center, book after book on “Getting 6 Pack Abbs”, “Getting Thin” “Drop 30 in 30″, and on and on. You get the message.
We begin the new year, just as we began 2008. We are full of good intentions. Some are even making specific “resolutions” to address what we did or didn’t do in 2008. (Perhaps to address what we know we should’ve done and for sure will do this year.) The problem of course is that Monday will surely come. The pulls and the tugs of daily living will begin anew. They will test your will, your resolve to actually make this year different.
With all we have seen this past year, is there any chance that 2009 could actually be a good year?
What will have to occur for you to conclude that 2009 was a “good year?” Underlying this very question is the assumption that you have control over whether the year is “good” or “dismal”. No doubt we all run into circumstances beyond our control. However, most of our year will be decided by us.
We will decide to exercise or not. I just re-read the last sentence. Full of conviction for me. But I will decide to exercise or to enumerate all of the very good and worthy reasons why I am not exercising.
We will decide to give up activities that do not contribute to our dreams and desires. But we will have to decide. By default, we will continue to do pretty much what we did in 2008. It’s natural to “go with the flow”. The question we must ask ourselves is, “Is going the same as last year going to help me create the life of my dreams, or is it going to just let me live another 365 days?”
I don’t set New Year’s Resolutions as a matter of practice. However, now is definitely the time to reflect on last year and revisit my dreams and goals. I encourage you to take a few hours (for me a couple of days) to make specific plans for 2009.
If you’ve never done it, perhaps this would be a good time to create a list of 50 things you want to do during your time on this planet. Allow yourself to be free to dream without restrictions of time or money. What would you do IF YOU COULD? A neet site to visit is http://www.my50.com/. It’s just a place where you can create your Dream 50 List and also look at others.
Perhaps this is where you’ll start to make 2000 a good year.
Remember, it is up to you.
